What is a touchscreen?

A touchscreen is a transparent touch-sensitive detector either mounted on the front of or directly connected to a display (e.g. TFT/LCD). Touchscreens are connected to a controller board. Data can be triggered or transferred directly to the display system by gently touching the surface with a finger, glove or stylus.

Criteria to consider when choosing touchscreen technology:

    Another important factor here is choosing the correct controller board, whether
    8 Bit = 256x256,
    10 Bit = 1024 x 1024, or
    12Bit = 4096x4096
    depending on the size of the touchscreen.

Technical Data Sheet to The TD-USB/RS232 Controllerboard Series The controllerboard serves to link through RS-232, USB or PS/2 ports with a computer server for data communication. Its main purpose lies in providing the computer user an accurate, swift and speedy response while using a touch screen. The driver program also provides a simulated mouse feature and supports a variety of PC operating systems, such as Windows 98, Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP, DOS, iMac, and Red Hat Linux.
